There is Hope for Him Yet

My son has on his screen saver "Super Nerds Only." My son is a geek, a nerd, etc., etc. and is very proud of the fact. He just finished the third grade and had a whole year of perfect report cards. His favorite part of the school year is when they have to do standardized testing. He wears glasses and has asthma. His fashion sense is non-existent. Classic nerd.

Maybe he is on to something. Is it hip to be square?

I saw a story in the paper yesterday which indicates he may be the future style-meister of his generation, Chic to be Geek. Could we be entering an era where brains and talent are valued over beauty and brawn? Instead of being a stupid movie, was "Revenge of the Nerds" a prophetic piece of cinema? Will cheerleaders fight to go out with the president of the chess club? Will boys be more interested in a girl's SAT scores than her bra size? It boggles the mind.

One can only hope we're entering such an era. I know I would love it if my daughter grows up to date a guy who is interested in her IQ more than her bra size.

Just ask Vicki Lewis Thompson with her Nerd series. :) Although I will fall over when guys start paying more attention to anything than bra size.

That would be new and different. And WELCOME!
As the Mama of three daughters, I really am hoping they look for more than surface when picking out dates. And vice-versa.

Well, there is Bill Gates as a role model now. Don't you know the girls who dissed him in high school are sorry......

My twelve year old is a classic nerd... and very popular. Not football for this guy, but band and networking classes. At his birthday party when he turned eleven, he had twelve girls and no boys show up. We laughed at his "harem".

Applause for brainy kids!

LOL, you may be right about everything but the bra size. Am pretty certain THAT is hard-wired in *vbg*.

The geekier the better. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the engineer/math types. Add a scientific calculator and I'm a goner!
