Whole Lot of Shakin' Going On

While sitting on the couch chatting with Melissa today, my house started to shake. We had an earthquake. Not a big one, but enough to knock a few things around. I opened my cupboards and found a few things tilted. Hubby reported stuff fell from his shelves. I'm about 50-60 miles from the epicenter, so I'm sure folks in the desert felt it a lot more. Here is a link to the earthquake page and you can see how many earthquakes we get in this area: USGS earthquake map.

Now if that isn't moving enough, hubby talked to a contractor who says he can remodel our kitchen in two weeks. I'd counted on the project taking 3-4 mos. but he thinks he can do it much quicker. I'm pretty excited. Oh, of course we have figured out the price.... That I am not excited about. There will probably be another earthquake when I see the estimate and my jaw drops to the ground.

Yeah, California Rocks!
I was about 90 mi from the 7.2 up north. I felt a lot more back when I was 20 mi from a 6.4

Hey, cool link. I'm near the New Madrid fault in the Midwest. Now I know where I can check a map out. Thanks.

Good luck with the remodel...shudder.

Yikes!! Glad it wasn't a really big one. Very scary.

I'm glad everyone's okay! Like Kacey, I'm almost right on top of the New Madrid fault and it's been restless of late. Nothing on the magnitude of what you guys get, though. I think 4.6 is the highest we've had.

So, let's see... California's waiting for the Big One. We're waiting on the Big One here. And the volcano under Yellowstone National Park is set to explode at any moment. The whole darn country's gonna consist of just the east coast! *g*

Scary with the earthquake! I've never been in one, don't want to try it, either.

Hope the remodel works out okay for you!

Glad everything's okay!

And I'm really, really jealous about your quick kitchen renovations. We're going to be without one for 18 weeks when we start our project. *sobs*

Of course, the fact that I don't cook makes it slightly less traumatic;)

I've felt a few earthquakes here in PR. Gosh, they scare the living daylights outta me. Good to hear it didn't do any damage to your house, and you're doing okay. :)

ALWAYS double the 'estimated time to complete' the people tell you. And double the money while you're at it. It just works out that way. Every time.

Yikes on the earthquakes!
The earth isn't supposed to move! Except, you know, when it is...

We get tornados in my part of the country. I think the quakes would scare me more.
