Attacked by a WIP!

So, I was minding my own business, working on my historical, knowing I was nearly done and planning my next project when BAM! I got hijacked by another story altogether. I have no idea where it came from, but in the last three days I've written 13 pages. I need to stop so I can finish my historical, but I guess I need to get this one out of my system. It's a vampire story and I'd sworn off bloodsuckers for awhile, but there it is.

I get kind of dopey when I start a new story. My head is in the clouds for the most part with brief moments of lucidity.

I started reading THE COMPANION by Susan Squires and so far I really like it. Its very different and she puts in a great deal of detail to color her world. Her research on ship terms is terrific.

I get attacked by ideas sometimes, too. So I have to make myself finish the old ms before starting a new one. But I always try to note down a new idea for later. Sorry I missed your birthday!

Don't you hate that? But glad you got some of it down.

What type of historical are you working on right now?

I'm a firm believer n finishing what you started, but sometimes you just gotta go with the flow and get that next story started! Good luck with both of them!

That happens to me all the time. I have to be really strong and block it out so I can finish the wip. I just scribble down a few sentences so I can remember the idea later. Sometimes the idea doesn't even seem that great when I come back to it--I think it's sometimes just my mind playing a procrastination game on the wip! LOL.

I hate that when it happens. =) My problem is when I do that I stray too far from the wip that is almost finished and have to go back and read it all over again to get back in the tone. LOL!

This is my take on why I started a new WIP (yes, another analogy, groan): When you work out, you start on the treadmill and you love that machine. You're pleased as punch with the treadmill and you faithfully use it 3-5 times a week for 30 mins. a whack. You've been doing this for a few months when you realize one day if you get back on the treadmill, you're going to barf. Over the last few days you've noticed your workout is stalling and you get real tired. But hey, there is the elliptical machine sitting there. So you get on the elliptical machine and you are back to enjoying your workout. After something different and a shake up to your workout, the plateau disappears and you can get back to the treadmill and enjoy your workout.

To me, creativity works the same way. Now that I've spent a few days on something completely different, I'm ready to go back to my original WIP.

Oh, Michelle, forgot to answer your question. I'm writing a Regency-era romantic suspense.

Hi Rene I am on a quest looking for information on romantic beach. I ran across your blog doing a search and thought I would stop by to see if you had any information. Hey, it is nice to see that other people like the same things I do. Anyway thanks for the read.
